6 Questions to Ask When Interviewing a Realtor

 

 

1. What is your strategy to find homes in a competitive market? - Realtors should have this info for you. This is a good indication if your agent will be proactive or reactive when you start your home search. An agent that has written multiple offers should have a plan of attack for each situation and transaction. 

2. How can you help us write a competitive offer? Writing an offer is an art and needs to be done with care. It’s not just about the price. A realtor needs to think quickly and creatively to be successful. There are many things to take into account in order to get an accepted offer, including purchase price, inspection, appraisal, and earnest money just to name a few. The best thing you can do is to have a plan in place. 

3. How do you make sure you’re staying up to date on the market? Do you know what’s happening day-to-day? Maybe an agent hasn’t written an offer in a while and while that can happen, a realtor needs to make sure they are staying abreast of what's happening in their local market. In this instance, what they don’t know can hurt them … and ultimately, you. 4. What sets you apart from other agents? With so many agents and brokers, you want to know what makes them the best fit for you. Are they an expert on condominiums? Do they have knowledge of your favorite neighborhood? Are they always there to take your call or text? A great tool is looking at online reviews. What are other people saying about this realtor? 

5. What’s your availability? Oftentimes homes hit the market quickly and you need an agent that can be there ASAP. Currently, homes rarely stay on the market for longer than a week, and if an agent isn’t available to see a home on the same day, you may lose out on the house. Make sure your schedules align so you can see as many homes as you can. 

6. What services do you provide? It’s a simple question to ask to set your expectations. Dig a little deeper. Ask what they will do for you. Will they just help you find a house or will they guide you along and be there for you every step of the way?
