Middleton Hills Neighborhood
Middleton Hills Neighborhood is one of the most distinctive neighborhoods in the area, designed specifically to promote a feeling of community among its residents.
The neighborhood offers a mix of about 400 single-family homes, townhouses, apartments and live-work units. In an effort to make a more sustainable use of living areas and promote the use of green space, Middleton Hills features comfortable homes with front porches and relatively small yards.
In exchange, ample green space was set aside for all the community to enjoy. In addition, the neighborhood features shops, a grocery store and offices within walking distance, to avoid that feel of urban sprawl so common in many other locations in the area.
Middleton Hills was founded by Marshall Erdman, who wanted to emphasize people and offer a high quality of life in a self sufficient neighborhood. It features Craftsman, Bungalow and Prairie style architecture, perhaps harkening to Erdman’s early association with architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
Middleton Hills is located near the western edge of Lake Mendota, and adjacent to the Pheasant Branch Creek Nature Preserve.
